01/20
Tuesday, February 5th is
the team banquet. The banquet is going to be held at Bethel High School in the
cafeteria. The banquet is a potluck so bring your best dish.
Bring your singlet to the
banquet to turn back in to the club and get your deposit check back.
To all new parents attending their first round robin
- Remember that any food or
drink that your wrestler takes in before he/she weighs in will reflect on
the scale and so if they can wait till after they weigh in to eat their
breakfast it would probably be better for them. If you are worried about
waiting to feed them then you have 2 options get there right as the scales
open and then feed your child or go ahead and feed them knowing that it may
bump them into a higher weight class. This is completely your choice.
- When you get there you
will probably find forms requesting info such as wrestler’s name, team name,
skill level and weight. If they are a rookie please put beginner for the
skill level and Bethel AllStars as the team name and leave the weight
blank. That will be filled in at the scales.
- When they weigh in they
will perform a skin and nail check, please ensure that your child’s nails
are cut and have no sharp edges.
- After your child has
weighed in they will have some free time till wrestling starts. After the
weigh ins are completed the different teams will match kids up by age,
weight, and skill level. Due to several factors once in a while a child
will be placed in a bracket where they should not be. For example, your
beginner is bracketed with wrestlers that have several years experience. If
this happens, please know that we have your child’s best interest at heart
so please calmly let one of the coaches know. We do not want your child
injured anymore than you do and we will either forfeit their matches and try
to get them some exhibition matches or we will discuss letting them continue
to compete with the bracket they have pulled.
- Please try to pay
attention when they call wrestlers to staging. Staging is where they will
match the kids with the kid they will be wrestling and give them their bout
sheets and inform them which mat they will be wrestling on. The hosting
tournament may make the announcements over a loud speaker or by having the
age and weight classes that are being called projected onto the wall. For
example they might call all 8 and unders 54 lbs and below to staging. If
you have an 8 and under 45, 50 or 54 pounder then they should go to
staging. It is up to the hosting team to dictate the rules about parents
being allowed into staging. You might be allowed to walk your wrestler up
to the entrance to staging or you might be allowed into staging. Please
follow whatever rules the hosting team has.
- We would like to request
that you remind your wrestlers to not go outside with their wrestling shoes
on and we would also like for you to keep an eye on your children and ensure
they do not wonder into off limit areas.
- It is going to be a long
day and if you are new then you might also have several “oh my goodness,
what do I do!” moments but please remember that this is a kids sports
program and everyone involved is a volunteer. Please stay calm and if you
have any questions feel free to ask, Every wrestler’s first tournament can
be confusing and nerve racking for both the wrestler and family and
everybody involved understands this. We will do the best we can to ensure
that the day is enjoyable for everyone. Again if you have any questions or
concerns feel free to ask.
