2017 CHALLENGE RULES
Parents: Please review the following Bethel Allstars Junior Wrestling Club’s rules associated with challenges.
Challenges are utilized to fill the weight classes in both age divisions by determining the best wrestler at each weight is in place to compete at the dual meet and post season tournaments. Please understand challenge nights are very busy for coaches and your child needs to be ready to report to the mat at any time. We also ask for your support in helping manage your child during these evenings, we cannot have children running around unattended and potentially risking our use of Bethel School District’s facilities.
If your child becomes the varsity or JV, they need to commit to attend tournaments until 1/27/18.
There is no coaching or cheering during challenges. Challenges are very tense. Parents will be allowed to watch, but please understand at any point parents could be asked to leave the room. Wrestlers cannot cheer or coach other wrestlers.
1.The first challenge night Monday 11/13/17 will be challenges only, no other practice. If challenges carry over to Tuesday 11/14/17, advanced practice will still happen
2.All paperwork and outstanding balances must be complete to participate in challenges
3.Your child must attend a minimum of two practices a week. Middle school practices count as Bethel All-stars practice to participate in challenges
4.Your child must be 5 & attending kindergarten to challenge
5.Your child must challenge in their singlet and headgear
6.Wrestlers/parents must sign their child up for a specific weight class by the end of practice on Thursday 11/9/17.
7.Challenges will be run like a tournament – cross bracket challenge for 2nd (JV) only
8.The initial Challenge Night will be run as a bracketed tournament with all wrestlers who have signed up for a specific weight class included. A Varsity and JV wrestler will be determined for most if not all weight classes at the event
9.Challenges are double elimination. The JV wrestler will need to be beaten twice, so the Varsity wrestler may wrestle the JV twice. If the JV wins the second match, then a third match between the two will happen and the one who wins twice will be Varsity
10.ATTENTION: THE FIRST CHALLENGE NIGHT IS VERY IMPORTANT!!!! If your child is unable to attend Challenge Night, notice must be given to Matt Rose (360.223.5383) no later than 4:00pm the day of. If you fail to provide notice of the absence your child will forfeit their position at that weight class and will be required to start at the bottom of the weight bracket the next Challenge Night. If notice of the absence is received, we may need to perform the challenges at the next available practice
11.Challenges following our initial challenge night will be held on Monday 12/4/17. This night will be a regular practice. Those that finish in the top 4 of each weight class can re-challenge. To occupy the JV or Varsity positions, the challenger must defeat the JV or the Varsity wrestler two consecutive times
12.If your wrestler earned a JV position, they may challenge up a weight class to attempt to receive a Varsity position. To receive the Varsity position your wrestler will be required to wrestle though the entire bracket and will be required to defeat every wrester with a maximum of a 5-minute break between matches. If they defeat the JV wrestler twice, they may challenge for Varsity. For both the JV and Varsity matches, the only break will be at the request of the current JV or Varsity wrestler. If you child fails to win the Varsity position, they will be required to occupy the JV position at the lower weight class and the original JV and Varsity wrestlers at each weight class will remain
13.If your wrestler takes third place at the selected weight class, the wrestler will have the opportunity to challenge up a weight class and defeat the JV and Varsity wrestler two consecutive times. If positions change, the same process in #10 will be followed until we have given every wrestler the opportunity to determine the outcome on the mat
14.You cannot challenge down a weight class. Wrestlers should be signed up at their lower weight class.
15.There will be a 1lb weight allowance after January 1st
16.For those just over the weight they want to challenge at: Bethel Allstars & PCJWL does NOT encourage weight loss! According to PCJWL Section B: Qualification for the subdivision tournament requires each participant to weigh in at least three (3) times at a sanctioned Round Robin Meet or dual team match. A wrestler also must compete in the weight class at subdivision that they have weighed in for one-half or more of the scheduled dual matches and/or Round Robin Meets.
