WHAT TO EXPECT AT A ROUND ROBIN (FOLKSTYLE SEASON)
What can I expect?
The first tournaments are round robins. You will arrive between 7am-8:30am (depending on the designated weigh-in time.) Although your child's entry is already paid for, you will need to bring cash for an entry fee. The entry fees for all spectators is generally $5 adult/18 and under free. Have your child put their singlet on at home, with warm clothes over it.
When you arrive, have you child go to the bathroom and proceed to weigh ins. At weigh ins, you will complete a form (age, years wrestling, etc) and have your child keep that with them. Boys will pull their singlet down so that their chest is exposed. Girls will keep their singlet pulled up. They will go through skin and nail checks. If you child has long nails, they will need to be trimmed before they can proceed. Typically once you child passes skin and nails, they will get marked with an x on their hand. Next your child will weigh in. Their weight is often times marked on their arm. The coach records their weight.
Now you have time to eat breakfast. You can eat there or come back. Be sure to come back by the designated time for your child to be put in their group (staging).
Wrestling tends to start at 10am. Your child will be put in a group of 4 wrestlers with similar experience and in the same age bracket. Throughout the day, your child will wrestle each person in their group. This is often an all day event. There will most likely be food there, but it is always a good idea to pack a cooler.
